High school and college students are invited to participate in Verses in Transit: Roam. Create. Send., an international juried postcard art exhibition inspired by the words of Walt Whitman.
From September 2 through October 6, 2025, students may submit up to three original postcard entries per paid submission at a special student-only rate of $10. Selected student works will be exhibited alongside artists from around the world at the historic Walt Whitman Birthplace in Huntington Station, NY.

To ensure accessibility, teachers may request fee waivers for students experiencing financial hardship by emailing: girlinacamera@gmail.com or tcacnpt@gmail.com with the subject line: request for waiver. The email should include the student’s name, involvement in a school art program, and a brief request. We value our students and deeply admire the role of educators in fostering creativity and a love for the arts.
Artist’s Mission: Create original artwork on the front of a 4” x 6” postcard. On the reverse, handwrite a favorite Walt Whitman verse, clearly citing its source. Every postcard becomes a one of-a-kind keepsake that captures both your personal expression and Whitman’s timeless voice. Each entry must be separately mailed and postmarked. No envelopes, please.
Student Awards Category Announced! To celebrate and encourage young talent, a special Student Best in Show award will be presented.
The winning student will receive:
• An acrylic award
• A $100 Blick Arts gift card
• A two-week solo show at Trinity Community Arts Center, Northport – Spring 2026
• Guest appearance on a future taping of Artists Outside the Frame in 2026
Additionally, the winner’s school will be invited to curate a small exhibit featuring student work from their art program, along with a teacher-created piece.
Second and third place student winners will receive a certificate and dedicated wall space to exhibit their work during this exclusive student spring showcase.
