No. 2- HISTORIC LONG ISLAND: THE WALT WHITMAN BIRTHPLACE. The “Good Gray Poet” was born in West Hills, Huntington on May 31st, 1819. This house, one of New York State’s Historic Sites, was built circa 1819 by the poet’s father. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
