Walkabout NYC
By Max Blagg
Walkabout began as a collaboration between poet Max Blagg and the artist Barney Kulok. Kulok mapped some parts of the city by calling up wifi names on his I- phone, and made them into ‘information’ paintings. Blagg made his own matching map by walking the same routes and conjuring whatever the location might suggest. Blagg’s chorus of wifi names are inserted like coffee breaks in the flow of the text.
The text was originally commissioned by Aperture Magazine and appeared in Issue #200 (fall 2010. A revised version was published in Local Knowledge Magazine #5 (New York, 2016). Shallow Books published its 1st edition of 300 copies in 2016 & this 2nd edition of 300 copies in 2018.
