Walkabout NYC

By Max Blagg

Walkabout began as a collaboration between poet Max Blagg and the artist Barney Kulok. Kulok mapped some parts of the city by calling up wifi names on his I- phone, and made them into โ€˜informationโ€™ paintings. Blagg made his own matching map by walking the same routes and conjuring whatever the location might suggest. Blaggโ€™s chorus of wifi names are inserted like coffee breaks in the flow of the text.

The text was originally commissioned by Aperture Magazine and appeared in Issue #200 (fall 2010. A revised version was published in Local Knowledge Magazine #5 (New York, 2016). Shallow Books published its 1st edition of 300 copies in 2016 & this 2nd edition of 300 copies in 2018.
